Review: The Innovative Rolex Milgauss vs the Classic Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Milgauss may have always been a black sheep among the Rolex catalogue. But, it is indeed one of the most innovative and pretty voguish Rolex models out there. However, the Rolex Submariner is ideally the most classic and one-of-a-kind model that is pretty hard to vote against. Nonetheless, both the models are expertly designed and developed, offering some of the premium quality around.

Today, we will be comparing between two exquisite and exclusive timepieces from the Rolex collection – the Rolex Submariner and Rolex Milgauss. Have a look!

The Rolex Milgauss

Rolex Milgauss comes with a fascinating history. While Rolex perceived that magnetic fields are affecting automatic watches, it introduced the Milgauss in the 1950s. The watch was crafted especially for engineers and scientists who work in intensified magnetic fields.

Consequently, the manufacturer incorporated unique and exclusive design elements for the Milgauss line of watches.

  • The watch flaunts an orange lightning bolt-shaped seconds hand and orange numbers that contrast the blue dial.
  • Another exclusive feature is its slightly dome-shaped sapphire crystal. The crystal is also bright green on the sides.
  • Moreover, the Milgauss features a 40mm watch case that does not appear too big or too small.
  • Interestingly, the shiny and sleek polished bezel compliments the case size and ideally, also the wrist more than the Submariner.
  • Rolex Milgauss is powered by the Calibre 3131 movement.

While the watch is not a diver’s watch, Rolex Milgauss is water-resistant up to 100m. Moreover, the signature crown is screwed tightly down to make sure it would not let any water in.

Featuring the 904L Oyster steel bracelet, 5-link Oyster clasp, and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, the Rolex Milgauss makes one of the most durable timepieces on the market.

However, the watch sports a ferromagnetic material within the inner case that helps against the electromagnetic fields.

The Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most fabulous watches to tick in this world. With a rich history dating back prior to the Milgauss, the Submariner is highly sought-after among collectors around the globe.

  • Although it comes with a clean and straightforward design, the Rolex Submariner has much character and overall, looks great.
  • The watch features black-and-white bi-directional bezel, white hands, black dial with matching stainless steel bracelet.
  • Like the Milgauss, the Rolex Submariner sports a 40mm case. Reversely, the bezel makes the watch appear slightly bulkier and more prominent.
  • However, the watch is water-resistant up to 1,000ft (300m).

The Rolex Submariner also flaunts a scratch-resistant crystal, ceramic bezel insert and a polished 904L Oyster bracelet. Overall, the Submariner is merely a durable watch that does not ideally include the intense technology fitted to the Milgauss.

However, the latest Rolex Submariner runs on a mechanical Calibre 3135 movement. The movement features 31 jewels and an instantaneous calendar aperture.
